Several women’s hockey players are working to form a league that would compete with the Premier Hockey Federation, a group of six NHL teams. The league would be partially supported by the NHL, whose franchises would co-sponsor women’s teams.

A new proposal from PWHPA calls for a six-team league featuring an average salary of $55,000 per team. The league would also include a playoff structure. The league would be co-sponsored by NHL teams on both sides of the border. There would also be health and medical benefits and dedicated training facilities.

The league is tentatively set to launch in the fall. It will include all post-collegiate 2022 Olympians from Canada and the United States.

PWHPA’s goal is to create a sustainable professional league that the NHL will support. The league’s members have agreed to a $25 million investment over the next three years. The league will also have a 32-game schedule. It would include a showcase tour — the Dream Gap Tour — that features world-class players. The tour will make five weekend stops in five North American cities.

PWHPA has the plan to expand to two more teams in the future. The league will also have a salary structure with a minimum wage of $55,000 for all players. The league would have a regular season, playoffs, and benefits.

The PWHPA has received individual support from 11 NHL teams. Its founders say the group has made steady progress in recent years. They have made numerous sponsorship inroads.
